The 19-year-old man who was stabbed in Montreal on Saturday night has died from his injuries, the Montreal Police Department (SPVM) confirmed on Sunday afternoon.

The incident occurred just before 7 p.m. on Arcand Street, near Robert-Jurie Street, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough.

“Initial information suggests that a conflict escalated between a group of individuals and another man.

Upon arrival, police found the 19-year-old victim with upper body injuries caused by a sharp object,” SPVM spokesperson Sabrina Gauthier said late Saturday evening.

Although authorities initially reported Sunday morning that the victim's life was no longer in danger, his condition worsened, leading to his death later in the day.

Police have arrested two men, aged 19 and 27, in connection with the attack.

Investigators will be questioning them.

A security perimeter was established to secure the crime scene, and the SPVM's canine squad was dispatched to gather evidence. "We are still working to understand the causes and circumstances surrounding this incident," Gauthier added.
