3 more women accuse billionaire Frank Stronach of sex assault, bringing total to 13
Court records show 92-year-old Stronach faces 17 charges in all, for historical allegations in Ontario
Three additional women have come forward with allegations of historical sex offenses against billionaire Frank Stronach, according to CBC News.
Stronach now faces four new charges, including rape and indecent assault, related to alleged incidents in Toronto in 1981 and 1983, as well as in Gormley, Ontario, in 1993. This information was provided by a clerk at a Brampton courthouse on Wednesday.
In total, 13 women have reported to the police that the 92-year-old Stronach assaulted them. He now faces a total of 17 criminal charges, which include sexual assault and forcible confinement.
The earliest allegations against the founder of Magna International date back to 1977, while the most recent incident is said to have occurred in February of this year.
Stronach's case is set to return to the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton next Monday.
He was first arrested in June by Peel Region police, located west of Toronto, and was instructed to surrender his passport and refrain from contacting any of the complainants.
At that time, Peel police encouraged anyone with relevant information regarding the case to step forward.
The Austrian-born business mogul has denied any wrongdoing and suggested that his accusers are motivated by financial gain.
"We have a lot of data which totally will prove those things are lies," Stronach stated in an interview with CBC's The Fifth Estate in August. "But I feel sorry for the women that made those charges."
Stronach's lawyer, Leora Shemesh, did not respond immediately to a request for comment on the new charges on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for Peel Regional Police declined to comment, citing the ongoing court proceedings.
Stronach, who resides in Aurora, north of Toronto, is a member of the Order of Canada, the Canadian Business Hall of Fame, and the Automotive Hall of Fame based in Michigan. Forbes magazine estimated his net worth at $1.5 billion US in 2018.
He initially built his fortune through Magna, the Ontario-based auto parts manufacturer he founded in 1957. Later, he established subsidiaries focused on horse racing and entertainment, which now operate under the Stronach Group. He is no longer directly involved with either company.
A judge recently denied a request to compel Belinda Stronach, the CEO of Stronach Group, and others to disclose documents related to any sexual misconduct complaints against the company's founder.
This motion was filed by Stronach's granddaughter, Selena, whose lawyers argued that business records would likely demonstrate a pattern of misconduct and corporate cover-ups.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Peter Osborne dismissed Selena's motion in August, stating that there is "simply no evidence in the record that the requested documents exist."
