3 people were detained following gunfire in downtown Montreal at a building owned by a guy whose two burnt down in Old Montreal
The building also houses Benamor's law office, according to records with the Quebec Bar Association.
Three young individuals, aged 17, 19, and 20, were arrested following a shooting incident late Tuesday night near Old Montreal.
Thankfully, no one was injured during the event. The suspects were apprehended and will be interviewed by Montreal police (SPVM) investigators.
The gunfire occurred around 11:50 p.m. near Saint-Antoine and Berri Street, in the Ville-Marie borough, close to Viger Square.
Shortly after the shots were fired, witnesses reported seeing a small white truck fleeing the scene.
SPVM officers spotted the vehicle at the intersection of René-Lévesque Blvd. and Sanguinet Street.
Although the truck initially continued westward on René-Lévesque, police managed to stop it near the corner of l’Hôtel-de-Ville Ave. and Boisbriand Street.
Inside the truck, officers found the three male suspects and a firearm. All three were arrested and taken to the investigation center for further questioning.
Police also discovered projectile impacts on a nearby building and shell casings on the ground.
The building in question is owned by Emile Benamor, who also owns properties that were destroyed in two recent fires in Old Montreal, one of which claimed nine lives in March 2023.
The building also houses Benamor's law office, according to records with the Quebec Bar Association.
SPVM investigators, along with forensic identification technicians, will examine both the scene of the shooting and the location where the suspects were intercepted to gather more information and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
