33-year-old woman shot in Mississauga is gravely injured
“I saw one of the girls from the passenger seat running towards where I was working. She was hysterical… she said one of her friends got shot in the head and asked for help,” the witness told CityNews.
Peel Regional Police (PRP) report that a 33-year-old woman is in critical condition after being shot in Mississauga early Tuesday morning.
Authorities responded to reports of a shooting in the area of Doulton Drive and Mississauga Road near the Queen Elizabeth Way (QEW) around 4 a.m.
The woman, a Mississauga resident, sustained life-threatening injuries and was taken to a trauma centre where she remains in critical condition.
PRP Constable Mandeep Khatra indicated that three women were in a vehicle when one of them called 911. It is not yet clear if the victim, who is believed to be the driver, was shot inside the SUV.
Constable Khatra also noted that multiple suspects fled the scene in a vehicle, but a description of the suspects has not been provided.
Witnesses describe a chaotic scene. A witness working with an overnight construction crew off the QEW near Mississauga Road reported seeing a woman exit an SUV and scream for help, saying her friend had been shot.
“I saw one of the girls from the passenger seat running towards where I was working. She was hysterical… she said one of her friends got shot in the head and asked for help,” the witness told CityNews.
“I went to see the situation and what was going on. I couldn’t do much but be there and be supportive.”
Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are assisting PRP with the investigation, and have closed both eastbound and westbound ramps at the QEW to Mississauga Road as they canvass the area. PRP has assured that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
