ABBA tells Trump to stop playing its songs at his events
Representatives of numerous artists have taken issue with Trump’s unauthorised use of their music at campaign events.
Record label Universal Music announced that, in collaboration with ABBA members, they have discovered that ABBA's music has been used at Trump events. They have requested the immediate removal of such content, according to a news release.
This incident is not unique, as many renowned artists have previously raised concerns about their music being used at Trump's political events without authorization. Earlier this month, Isaac Hayes's family threatened legal action over the unauthorized use of his songs.
In July, a journalist from the Swedish outlet Svenska Dagbladet reported that "The Winner Takes It All" was played during a Trump campaign event in Minnesota, followed by a 10-minute video of ABBA performing their hits on a large screen.
In March, the estate of Irish singer Sinead O’Connor also demanded that Trump cease using her song "Nothing Compares 2 U" at campaign events.
The estate and record label of O’Connor released a joint statement saying, “It is no exaggeration to say that Sinead would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone she referred to as a ‘biblical devil.’ As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately.”
Over the years, other prominent artists such as Tom Petty, Adele, REM, and Celine Dion have similarly voiced their objections.
Earlier this month, Trump also shared fake AI-generated images on social media, purportedly showing Taylor Swift endorsing him.
