Taylor Swift Fans Set Data Record at Rogers Centre During Eras Tour
Taylor Swift's six-night Eras Tour in Toronto not only captivated fans but also set a groundbreaking record for mobile data usage at Rogers Centre. During the final show on November 21, fans used a staggering 7.4 terabytes (TB) of mobile data, the highest ever recorded for a single event at the stadium, according to Rogers Communications.
To put this into perspective, the data usage equals uploading 182,000 photos, streaming 1,600 hours of video, or listening to Swift’s entire music catalogue 6,300 times.
“Taylor breaks records wherever she goes, and her fans’ data usage at her Toronto shows was no exception,” said Mark Kennedy, Chief Technology Officer at Rogers Communications.
The Rogers 5G network saw unprecedented traffic during Swift’s performances, outperforming previous records. Fans experienced 2.7 times faster download speeds and 3.8 times faster upload speeds compared to the Diljit Dosanjh concert in July 2024. Dosanjh fans had set a prior data record with 5.4TB, prompting Rogers to enhance its network capabilities.
Ahead of the highly anticipated shows, Rogers invested $8 million to install state-of-the-art 5G equipment, increasing network capacity threefold. This upgrade is equivalent to the coverage provided by 33 towers in downtown Toronto. Over six performances, Swift’s fans consumed a total of 42TB of data on the Rogers 5G network, highlighting the scale of the demand.
Swift's Eras Tour has proven to be a cultural and technological phenomenon, breaking not just musical but also digital boundaries wherever it goes.
