Blue Jays pick up de Geus off waivers from Marlins
The 26-year-old de Geus, has appeared in 11 games between Miami and Seattle this season, spending the majority of the campaign at triple-A Jacksonville and Tacoma.
The Toronto Blue Jays have claimed right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins.
De Geus was immediately optioned to the Blue Jays' triple-A team in Buffalo, New York, while right-hander Yerry Rodríguez was designated for assignment.
The 26-year-old de Geus has played in 11 games this season between the Marlins and Seattle Mariners, spending most of his time at triple-A Jacksonville and Tacoma. He has posted a 5.60 ERA across the majors and triple-A this year, with a 7.9% walk rate, 14.9% strikeout rate, and a 58.9% groundball rate over 47 combined appearances.
Throughout his MLB career, de Geus has made 58 appearances with the Texas Rangers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Mariners, and Marlins, recording a 7.17 ERA over 59 innings, with 47 strikeouts and a 53.6% groundball rate.
Rodríguez, in his time with Toronto this season, has pitched in four games, posting a 15.43 ERA. He struck out five but allowed nine runs—eight of them earned—in 4 2/3 innings.
