Body found alongside road east of Calgary prompts homicide probe: RCMP

The RCMP’s major crimes unit is investigating a death after a body was discovered by emergency responders on the side of a road east of Calgary early Wednesday.
In a news release, police stated that while an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday in Calgary, investigators suspect the person was the victim of a homicide.
Officers were called to the scene near Township Road 233 and Highway 791 at 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday after a passerby reported seeing a fire. It is unclear if the body was found inside a vehicle or building, as police did not provide further details.
"RCMP is seeking assistance from anyone who may have dash-camera footage and was in this area between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m.," the statement read. "We are also looking to speak with anyone who was driving on Highway 560, west of the Glenmore and Stoney Trail overpass, during that time and may have dash-camera footage."
Police believe the incident was a targeted attack and assured the public there is no ongoing threat.
