Body found during Ottawa River kayaker missing person search
Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, police discovered a body.
The Ontario Provincial Police have found a body near the area where a missing kayaker was last seen on the Ottawa River.
The search began early Wednesday morning, Sept. 18, after a kayak with two people overturned in rapids near the inter-provincial bridge on Highway 148.
A 34-year-old man was rescued with help from police and private citizens, while a 30-year-old woman remained missing.
Around 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 21, police discovered a body.
At this time, authorities have not confirmed the identity of the body.
The investigation is ongoing, and a post-mortem examination is planned to determine the cause of death, which is believed to be drowning.
The search for the missing woman had spanned several days and involved the OPP’s Emergency Response Team (ERT), along with Marine and Aviation Units from both the OPP and the Sûreté du Québec.
