Body of woman, 19, at Halifax Walmart was discovered by her mother
The Maritime Sikh Society has identified the victim as Gursimran Kaur, a Sikh woman originally from India who had immigrated to Canada with her mother a couple of years ago.
A Sikh organization has identified the 19-year-old woman who tragically died inside a bakery oven at a Walmart, revealing that it was her mother — also employed at the store — who discovered her body.
The Maritime Sikh Society confirmed the victim as Gursimran Kaur, a Sikh woman originally from India who had moved to Canada with her mother a few years ago.
Balbir Singh, the society’s secretary, stated that Kaur's mother remains in deep shock but gave permission to share information about her daughter on an online fundraiser.
The GoFundMe page, which had collected over $90,000 by midday Thursday, explains that Kaur’s mother became increasingly worried when her daughter stopped responding to calls during her Saturday night shift.
The organization withheld the mother's name but said she was the one who opened the industrial oven in the bakery and found her daughter’s burned body.
The fundraiser describes Kaur as “a young beautiful girl who came to Canada with big dreams” and is seeking donations to help bring her father and brother from Punjab, India, to Nova Scotia for the funeral.
A Walmart spokesperson was not immediately available for comment.
