Canada’s population grew 0.6% in Q2: StatsCan
The agency says the total means 250,229 people were added in the second quarter of the year for a growth of 0.6 per cent.
Statistics Canada reports that the country’s population reached approximately 41,288,599 as of July 1.
According to the agency, this figure reflects an increase of 250,229 individuals during the second quarter of the year, translating to a growth rate of 0.6 percent.
This growth rate is lower than the 0.8 percent increase recorded in the same quarter of 2023 and the 0.7 percent growth observed in the second quarter of 2022.
The population increase was primarily driven by international migration, which contributed 240,303 individuals. The natural change, or the difference between births and deaths, accounted for an additional 9,926 people.
Among the provinces and territories, Alberta experienced the highest growth rate, with an increase of 1.0 percent during the quarter, while the Northwest Territories saw the slowest growth at 0.1 percent.
