CFL teams unveil 10 players from each of their respective negotiation lists
Card was one of 10 negotiation-list players revealed Wednesday by the Edmonton Elks. All nine CFL teams unveiled players Wednesday in the first of two revelations this year.
Hudson Card, currently a senior at Purdue, now has a second professional football opportunity.
On Wednesday, the Edmonton Elks announced Card as one of ten players on their negotiation list. This was part of the first of two annual announcements by all nine CFL teams.
Card, a six-foot-three, 210-pound quarterback from Texas, is in his second season with Purdue after transferring from Texas. In Purdue's 49-0 win over Indiana State on August 31, he completed 24 of 25 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns.
Purdue (1-0) will face No. 18 Notre Dame (1-1) on Saturday.
Last season, Card completed 215 of 365 passes (58.9 percent) for 2,387 yards, with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions, starting all 11 games he played. He missed one game due to injury. Additionally, he rushed 93 times for 203 yards and five touchdowns, finishing third in the Big Ten in passing yards per game (217) and completions per game (19.6).
Card began his college career at Texas in 2020. During the 2022 season, he started three of the nine games he played, completing 75 of 108 passes (69.4 percent) for 928 yards, with six touchdowns and one interception, and rushed 17 times for 46 yards.
CFL teams can include up to 45 players on their negotiation lists, giving them exclusive rights to negotiate with those players if they choose to play in Canada. Players can be added or removed from these lists at a team's discretion.
While many players on negotiation lists never join CFL teams, there have been notable exceptions. For example, Hamilton's rookie quarterback Taulia Tagovailoa, brother of Miami Dolphins star Tua Tagovailoa, signed with the Ticats after being on their list. Similarly, Hamilton signed Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel from their negotiation list in 2018.
Other notable negotiation-list players include quarterbacks Dustin Crum (Ottawa) and Chris Streveler (Winnipeg), and receivers Tim White (Hamilton) and Kalil Pimpleton (Ottawa).
On Wednesday, quarterbacks were the most frequently listed, with 33 revealed across the CFL. Each team had at least two quarterbacks on their list, with B.C. (seven) and Edmonton (six) having the highest numbers.
The next list announcement will take place in December.
