Comedian who humiliated Tom Brady during a roast is set to host the Golden Globes
I just hope to continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled).”
Comedian and actor Nikki Glaser has been announced as the host of the upcoming Golden Globes, bringing her signature edgy humor to the role.
Known for her fearless and sharp-witted approach, Glaser will make her debut as the host on January 5, airing live on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
In a statement, Glaser mentioned Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ricky Gervais as inspirations for her hosting style.
She said, “Some of my favorite jokes of all time have come from past Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina, Amy, or Ricky have said exactly what we all didn’t know we desperately needed to hear.
I just hope to continue in that time-honored tradition (that might also get me canceled).”
Glaser has garnered attention for her razor-sharp comedy, notably at roasts, including a recent appearance roasting Tom Brady where she poked fun at his complex love life and past crypto advocacy.
Her latest HBO special, “Someday You’ll Die,” earned her an Emmy nomination and tackled topics ranging from offering to pay for friends’ abortions to discussing her most intimate habits.
Jay Penske, chairman and CEO of Dick Clark Productions and Penske Media Corporation, praised Glaser’s selection, stating, “Nikki Glaser brings a fresh and unmatched candor to her comedy and to the Golden Globes.
Her unapologetic style made her an obvious and compelling choice as host for this year’s event.”
The previous Golden Globes broadcast saw an average viewership of 9.4 million, a significant increase of about 50% from 2023, according to CBS. The event featured notable figures such as Taylor Swift, Oprah Winfrey, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, and Leonardo DiCaprio.
However, the 2023 show faced criticism for host Jo Koy’s fumbled opening monologue and a hurried pace.
