Couple from Northern Ontario wins the $70 million OLG Lotto Max prize on their very first ticket buy
The next draw will also feature 18 additional Maxmillions prizes worth $1 million each.
A couple from the small northern Ontario town of Iroquois Falls, with a population just under 5,000, has won the $70 million Lotto Max jackpot from the August 20 draw.
Jennifer Stuart-Flynn and Kyle Murray won the prize on Kyle’s first-ever lottery ticket purchase.
The couple, who recently welcomed a newborn, expressed their astonishment and joy. Stuart-Flynn shared, “I have been through so many good things in the past week.
From having my newborn to having my mother-in-law come and receiving amazing support. To have this happen, absolutely no way.” She also mentioned her plans to buy her sister a house, as she had promised if they ever won big.
Murray expressed his desire to use the winnings to buy a new property and build a farm for their children.
“Build a little farm. Set something up that the kids will want to come back to,” he said. He noted that their recent struggles have been focused on giving their children a better life.
Stuart-Flynn also reflected on her gratitude for the opportunity to provide her children with a better future.
“That’s the part that makes me most emotional,” she said. “My kids are set and will never have to wonder about anything. Everything for us has seemed to come in three: the good and the bad.
This was the most positive three from the start when we had our newborn to my husband’s promotion, and now winning the lottery.”
The $70 million win marks the sixth jackpot win in Ontario this year, according to the OLG.
The organization has announced that the top Lotto Max prize will increase to $80 million on Tuesday, September 17, surpassing the previous record of $75 million.
The next draw will also feature 18 additional Maxmillions prizes worth $1 million each. Tickets must be purchased by 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
