Elon Musk’s mom, Maye Musk, appears to encourage voter fraud on X
“The Democrats have given us another option. You don’t have to register to vote. On Election Day, have 10 fake names, go to 10 polling booths and vote 10 times,” she wrote Saturday on X, the site formerly known as Twitter.
Maye Musk, mother of billionaire X owner Elon Musk, faced scrutiny on her son’s social media platform after seemingly encouraging Donald Trump supporters to commit voter fraud by using fake names to cast multiple votes.
“The Democrats have given us another option. You don’t have to register to vote. On Election Day, have 10 fake names, go to 10 polling booths and vote 10 times,” she wrote on Saturday on X, formerly known as Twitter. “That’s 100 votes, and it’s not illegal. Maybe we should work the system too.”
In response, users added a community note to her post, referencing federal law on the U.S. House of Representatives website that prohibits voting multiple times and falsifying information when voting.
“This is, in fact, illegal,” the fact check stated. Voting more than once and falsifying information can result in fines of up to $10,000 and imprisonment for up to five years. The law specifies that anyone who knowingly falsifies or conceals material facts, or makes false statements or representations, shall be fined or imprisoned.
However, three hours later, Maye seemed to retract her statement, advising her followers to “ignore” it. “In Butler, Pennsylvania, we just heard that the Republicans will make sure no illegals vote,” she stated. “Ignore my previous post.”
On Sunday, she attempted to frame her earlier remarks as “sarcasm.”
Her comments emerged over the same weekend that her son, who has endorsed Donald Trump for the upcoming 2024 U.S. presidential election, shared the stage with the former president at a rally in Pennsylvania.
“As you can see I am not just MAGA — I am Dark MAGA,” Elon declared to the crowd while wearing a black version of Trump’s “Make America Great Again” campaign hat. This marked Elon’s first appearance at one of Trump’s rallies, highlighting their growing alliance as the presidential election approaches. The billionaire has established a super political action committee to support the Republican nominee, heavily investing in get-out-the-vote initiatives. Trump has indicated that he would appoint Musk to lead a government efficiency commission if he returns to the White House.
During the rally, Elon portrayed Trump as a champion of free speech, asserting that Democrats aim “to take away your freedom of speech, they want to take away your right to bear arms, they want to take away your right to vote, effectively.” He also criticized a California initiative to ban voter ID requirements.
The event took place at the same location where a gunman had previously grazed Trump’s right ear with bullets and killed a Trump supporter, Corey Comperatore, injuring multiple others.
