Exo resumes full service after partial shutdown during CN, CPKC work stoppage

Montreal-area commuters can resume their regular travel on Monday morning as the Exo transit system resumes service following the end of the work stoppage by Canada’s two major railways.

Exo spokeswoman Catherine Maurice announced on Sunday that service on the Candiac, St-Jerome, and Vaudreuil/Hudson lines will return to their normal schedules after a sudden halt on Thursday morning, which caught many riders off guard.

Maurice added that bus shuttle services will continue on Monday to address “any issues that may arise” for the 21,000 daily passengers on these routes.

Exo anticipates track congestion as operations by Canadian National Railway and Canadian Pacific Kansas City ramp up.

Last week, select commuter lines in Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver were disrupted when the rail companies locked out 9,300 employees, including Canadian Pacific dispatchers who manage traffic on tracks used by commuter trains.

On Saturday, the federal labour board mandated that the railways resume operations and employees return to work at 12:01 a.m. Monday, ahead of binding arbitration intended to resolve the labor dispute that led to the shutdown.
