First meeting with Trump and Harris transition teams is hosted at the White House
For the first time this year, the meeting included aides from both Harris and Trump’s teams.
Representatives from the transition teams of former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris met at the White House for the first time, the Biden administration announced on Wednesday.
This meeting is part of the outgoing administration’s efforts to ensure a smooth transfer of power to the winner of the upcoming November election.
Chief of Staff Jeffrey Zients led a session on Tuesday of the White House Transition Coordinating Committee, the highest-level government group responsible for planning the transition.
For the first time this year, the meeting included aides from both Harris and Trump’s teams.
The inclusion of both parties’ representatives is required by the Presidential Transition Act, which stipulates that the representatives of designated candidates serve in an advisory role.
The meeting, held in the Roosevelt Room, lasted around an hour, according to the White House.
Discussions covered updates on various transition preparations, such as plans to provide office space for the nominees, identifying career officials to temporarily fill vacant political roles, and preparing memos on agency operations for the incoming president’s team.
