Flexibus service coming to Sillery and Montcalm

The city’s popular Flexibus on-demand mini-bus service is now expanding to include the Montcalm and Sillery districts.

Service in this new zone, which marks the sixth expansion since the Flexibus program launched in 2021, began on November 18. The new boarding locations include Rue Verger, Gignac, and Maguire, as well as Avenue Cartier in Montcalm.

To use the service, passengers must book a spot online on the seven-passenger buses. Flexibus operates without fixed routes, with itineraries designed based on customer demand. Riders can board or disembark at regular stops on the Réseau de Transport de la Capitale (RTC) bus routes.

The cost of Flexibus rides is the same as for regular RTC buses.

The expansion into these new districts required an investment of $700,000, according to city records. The full network is projected to receive a budget of $21.5 million through 2027.

RTC President Maude Mercier Larouche commented, “The rapid adoption of Flexibus by customers clearly demonstrates how the service meets the needs of citizens in terms of local travel.”

A city survey revealed that more than 18,700 trips are being made monthly using the service, with students comprising over two-thirds of the users. Popular destinations include secondary schools, local businesses, shopping malls, community centers, and transit hubs where passengers can connect with regular RTC bus routes.

Other areas currently served by Flexibus include northeast districts (Wendake, Saint-Émile, Lac-Saint-Charles, and Notre-Dame-des-Laurentides), northwest districts (Val-Bélair and Loretteville), Beauport (Courville, Montmorency, and Sainte-Thérèse-de-Lisieux), as well as Saint-Augustin-de-Desmaures and L’Ancienne-Lorette.

Future plans include expanding the service to Cap-Rouge, Orsainville, Lebourgneuf, and an additional zone yet to be determined.
