Foreign influence investigation completes its most recent phase of work, Trudeau will testify
The inquiry will hold five days of policy consultations next week to develop recommendations, with a final report expected by the end of the year.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to testify today as the federal inquiry into foreign interference concludes its current phase.
The commission of inquiry is examining how well Canadian institutions can detect and counter attempts by hostile states to interfere in national affairs.
In recent weeks, the inquiry has heard from senior government officials, police, intelligence experts, cabinet ministers, and members of diaspora communities.
Trudeau previously testified in April during the inquiry’s initial phase, which focused on allegations of foreign interference in the last two federal elections.
This latest testimony comes shortly after Canada expelled six Indian diplomats, leading to India's swift retaliation by expelling Canadian diplomats.
The inquiry will hold five days of policy consultations next week to develop recommendations, with a final report expected by the end of the year.
