Frustrations over dog poop being left at Calgary’s Nose Hill Park
Many park users feel it is unfair to expect the city to clean up after a few irresponsible dog owners.
Calgarians are voicing their frustration over an increase in dog feces being left uncollected in Nose Hill Park, a popular destination known for its walking trails and scenic views.
Parkgoers have taken to social media to express their concerns, reporting unpleasant smells and unsightly messes throughout the park.
One frequent visitor shared, “Yes, the dog feces is definitely an issue. People just don’t pick up. Being a dog walker, though, I’m always picking up.”
Another noted that certain areas, particularly around Shaganappi Trail, are worse than others, highlighting the inconsistency in pet owners’ responsibility.
In response to the growing concern, the city has placed signs throughout the park reminding users to clean up after their dogs, warning that fines may be issued for those who do not comply.
A city spokesperson stated, “Park staff and contractors do litter clean-up in all our park and natural areas; however, because of the size of our natural areas (of which Nose Hill Park is one), we rely on a partnership with park users to do the right thing.”
Many park users feel it is unfair to expect the city to clean up after a few irresponsible dog owners.
However, one dog owner countered that some complaints stem from a general dislike for dogs in the park, saying, “There are people that don’t like dogs, and I get that, but if you’re going to have a dog park, you have to expect to have dogs.”
In Calgary, the fine for failing to clean up after a dog is $500.
