General Motors recalls nearly 450,000 vehicles over issues with low brake fluid warning
More than 38,000 Canadian vehicles impacted by recall
General Motors is recalling over 449,000 SUVs and pickup trucks due to a potential issue with the electronic brake control module software, which may fail to trigger a warning light in the event of brake fluid loss.
Among the vehicles affected, 38,382 are in Canada.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced on Friday that the recall applies to specific 2023-2024 models, including the Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, 2023 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2023-2024 Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban 1500, 2023 GMC Sierra 1500, and the 2023-2024 GMC Yukon and Yukon XL.
Without the brake fluid warning light, vehicles could be driven with low brake fluid levels, potentially reducing braking performance and increasing the likelihood of a crash.
General Motors will offer a free software update to affected vehicle owners.
To see if your vehicle is included in the recall, you can visit the General Motors website and enter your vehicle identification number (VIN).
Notification letters are expected to be mailed by October 28. Vehicle owners can also contact customer service: GMC at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac at 1-800-458-8006.
