Gerry Lichty, North Frontenac mayor, was elected 2025 Frontenac County warden. He aims to tackle rural challenges, with Bill Saunders as deputy warden.

Gerry Lichty, Mayor of North Frontenac Township, has been elected as the 2025 Warden of Frontenac County. The decision was finalized during the council meeting held on Wednesday.

“I’d like to thank Warden Smith and my fellow Frontenac County councillors for selecting me as 2025 Warden,” Lichty stated. “Rural municipalities continue to face intensifying economic and social challenges, and Frontenac is no exception. I’m looking forward to applying my energies to further my predecessors’ work and to representing the interests of residents of Frontenac County in the region and across Ontario.”

Lichty, who has served as Mayor of North Frontenac and a County Councillor since 2022, brings extensive experience to his new role. His previous contributions include serving on North Frontenac’s Committee of Adjustment and acting as President of the Snow Road Community Centre Association.

A professional engineer, Lichty’s career highlights include managing community housing projects in Toronto and for Ontario’s Ministry of Housing, working as a facilities manager for the Region of Waterloo, and leading Northwind Management Consultants as CEO. He has lived in North Frontenac since 2014.

Joining Lichty in leadership is Bill Saunders, Deputy Mayor of Frontenac Islands Township, who has been elected as the 2025 County Deputy Warden.

The Warden, elected annually, acts as the chief executive officer of Frontenac County, presides over council meetings, provides leadership, and represents the county at official events. The Deputy Warden supports these responsibilities, while each member of the eight-person council holds one vote.

Frontenac County Council, elected for a four-year term running through 2026, includes representatives from the townships of North Frontenac, Central Frontenac, South Frontenac, and Frontenac Islands.

Current Council Members:

  • Warden Gerry Lichty (North Frontenac Township)
  • Deputy Warden Bill Saunders (Frontenac Islands Township)
  • Coun. Fred Fowler (North Frontenac Township)
  • Coun. Nicki Gowdy (Central Frontenac Township)
  • Coun. Judy Greenwood-Speers (Frontenac Islands Township)
