Government business on pause as Conservatives demand documents on defunct green tech foundation

Government business in the House of Commons has been indefinitely halted, with the Conservatives stating it will remain on hold until the Liberals release documents concerning misspent government funds.

Last week, Speaker Greg Fergus ruled that the government "clearly did not fully comply" with a House order to provide documents related to a now-defunct foundation that was responsible for distributing hundreds of millions in federal funding for green technology projects.

Since then, the House has been focused on the issue. Conservative House Leader Andrew Scheer insists the debate will continue until the government submits the unredacted documents.

The government dissolved Sustainable Development Technology Canada following a critical report from the auditor general regarding the organization's management.

Liberal House Leader Karina Gould expressed concern that ordering the release of documents to the RCMP blurs the line between Parliament and law enforcement.

Due to the ongoing debate, the Liberals have had to delay a vote on government tax reform twice.
