Government of Edmonton shuttered a creche after receiving complaints about youngsters left alone
The closure is expected to affect 187 children.
The Alberta government has shut down Willowbrae Academy West Point Centre in Edmonton following multiple complaints about children being left unsupervised.
According to the province, the child-care centre's licence was initially suspended due to several violations, and a probationary licence, which was set to expire on October 9, was granted. During the probation period, Child Care Licensing worked with the centre to help them meet compliance standards.
However, ongoing concerns prevented the reinstatement of their suspended licence.
The closure is expected to affect 187 children.
“Families impacted by the program’s closure were notified in person on October 9. Those not informed in person will be contacted via email as soon as the program provides the necessary contact details. Additionally, a notice explaining the reason for the closure has been posted on the facility’s door,” the province said in a statement.
Families will also receive support in finding alternative child-care options.
