Gunmen attack and kill 5 officers in Pakistan's northwest as nation votes
Members of polling staff leaves after collecting polling material for Feb. 8 general elections.

Police say gunmen set off a bomb and then opened fire at a police van, killing five officers and wounding two others in Pakistan’s northwest.

Local police official Khalid Khan said the officers were assigned to security duty in the Dera Ismail Khan district during parliamentary elections held Thursday.

No one claimed responsibility for the attack but the area is a former stronghold of the Pakistani Taliban who often target police forces.

This is a developing story, with inputs from AP
