In a post on X, PM Modi, sharing four photographs, wrote, "Heartiest congratulations my friend Donald Trump on your historic election victory."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Donald Trump on his election victory on Wednesday, expressing enthusiasm for renewing the collaboration between India and the United States to strengthen their Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership.
In a post on social media platform X, Modi shared four photographs from past meetings with Trump, writing, "Heartiest congratulations my friend @realDonaldTrump on your historic election victory. As you build on the successes of your previous term, I look forward to renewing our collaboration to further strengthen the India-US Comprehensive Global and Strategic Partnership. Together, let’s work for the betterment of our people and to promote global peace, stability and prosperity.”
Donald Trump was declared the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday, marking a notable political comeback after four years marked by legal challenges and controversies. Trump’s win in Wisconsin put him over the 270 electoral votes needed to secure the presidency. By 4:27 PM IST, Trump held 277 electoral votes, while Kamala Harris had secured 224.
At 78, Trump addressed supporters at the Palm Beach Convention Centre in Florida, accompanied by family members, including his wife, Melania Trump. In his speech, he described the victory as a landmark moment for the nation, saying, “This will truly be a golden age for America. This is a magnificent victory that will also help us to make America great again.”
He further described the movement supporting him as “the greatest political movement of all time,” and emphasized his vision of helping the country heal and move forward. Trump’s inauguration is set for January 20.
The outcome also makes Trump the only U.S. president besides Grover Cleveland to serve non-consecutive terms, with Cleveland having been both the 22nd and 24th president of the United States in the late 19th century.
