Here's what's open and closed in Ottawa on Labour Day Monday
A few stores and malls will open, as will most museums
Monday marks Labour Day, the final holiday of the summer. Here’s a guide to what’s open and closed in Ottawa and surrounding areas.
Shopping and Attractions
Grocery Stores
Most grocery stores in the city will be closed on Monday, but some exceptions include Whole Foods at Lansdowne Park, Farm Boy at Rideau Centre, and Loblaws on Rideau Street, which will remain open.
Alcohol
Seven Beer Stores in Ottawa will operate from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., along with nearby locations in Carleton Place and Smiths Falls. LCBO locations will be closed, but alcohol may still be available at rural LCBO convenience outlets and participating grocery stores that are open on Monday.
Pharmacies
Some Shoppers Drug Mart and Rexall locations will be open. Check specific stores for holiday hours.
Malls
Bayshore, Place d'Orléans, and St. Laurent malls will be closed. However, Rideau Centre and Tanger Outlets will be open, though individual store hours may vary.
Museums and Galleries
The National Gallery of Canada and the agriculture, aviation, history, nature, science, and war museums will be open. The Ottawa Art Gallery and Diefenbunker will be closed.
Municipal Services
Green Bin, Recycling, and Garbage Collection
There will be no curbside green bin, recycling, or garbage collection on Monday, and multi-residential recycling or green bin collection will also not take place. Pickup will resume on Tuesday, with collection delayed by one day for the rest of the week. Multi-residential garbage containers will be collected as usual.
Libraries
All Ottawa Public Library branches will be closed.
Municipal Child Care
All municipal child-care centres will be closed.
Recreation
Some pools and fitness centres will be open on modified schedules. Splash pads will remain open until September 15, but wading pools have closed for the season. Three city outdoor pools will conclude their seasons on Monday with an hour of dog swimming. The Bearbrook Pool will host a dog swim on Sunday. City beaches are no longer supervised by lifeguards, but the National Capital Commission's River House swimming area will be open, and Monday marks the last day of the season for NCC beaches.
Ottawa Public Health
The Site program office and supervised consumption services at 179 Clarence St. will be closed, though the Site mobile van will operate from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. The Sexual Health Clinic, satellite clinics, and dental clinics will also be closed.
Other Services
City Hall and client service centres at Ben Franklin Place and 255 Centrum Blvd. will be closed, along with the provincial court at 100 Constellation Dr. However, the city's 311 contact centre will remain open for urgent matters.
Getting Around
Parking
All City of Ottawa parking regulations and restrictions will be in effect.
Transit
OC Transpo will operate on a Sunday schedule. Monday is also the final day for special summer weekend service on routes 125, 139, and 185. Route 301 between Richmond and Carlingwood will not run. The OC Transpo Rideau Centre customer service centre will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the OC Transpo lost and found at Heartwood House will be closed. Para Transpo regular bookings will be automatically canceled, but riders can book trips through My Para Transpo or by calling 613-560-5000. The taxi coupon line and the 57272 Para Transpo text service will remain open.
