Honda recalls 239,000 vehicles in Canada over defective part in steering system
Defective part could result in increased risk of a crash or injury, the company says
Honda Canada announced Wednesday the recall of approximately 239,000 vehicles due to concerns that a faulty part in the steering system could potentially lead to a crash.
This voluntary recall affects Acura and Honda models from the years 2022-2025.
A similar recall has been issued in the U.S., impacting about 1.7 million vehicles.
According to the advisory, the issue is linked to "an improperly produced steering gearbox worm wheel," a crucial component of the steering system. The defective part may expand when exposed to heat and moisture, which affects the thickness of the grease between the gear and the bar it connects to.
"Excessive friction between these components can cause increased steering effort and difficulty, or 'sticky' steering," the advisory explained.
To address the heightened risk of crashes or injuries, owners of the affected vehicles will receive free repairs at authorized Honda or Acura dealerships, where the faulty part will be replaced.
The full list of vehicles affected by the recall in Canada includes:
- 2022-2025 Honda Civic Sedan
- 2022-2025 Honda Civic Hatchback
- 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Sedan
- 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid Hatchback
- 2023-2025 Honda Civic Type R

- 2023-2025 Honda HR-V

Honda Canada stated that vehicle owners will be notified by mail. For those unsure if their vehicle requires repair, they can check their vehicle identification number on Honda's website.
