In an inquiry into vehicle fraud, a second Toronto man has been detained and is facing over 100 counts
On September 7, police executed a search warrant and arrested 34-year-old Kris Kattick from Toronto.
The Toronto Police Service (TPS) has arrested and charged a second individual with over 100 offences in connection to a large-scale auto fraud investigation.
According to a TPS news release, the investigation began in July after officers from 53 Division discovered that a suspect was involved in fraudulent vehicle transfers at ServiceOntario locations.
Last month, Winkle Lejarde, a 43-year-old from Toronto, was arrested after ServiceOntario staff helped link him to multiple vehicle-related frauds dating back to November 2023.
Further investigation led officers to identify a second suspect. On September 7, police executed a search warrant and arrested 34-year-old Kris Kattick from Toronto.
Kattick now faces 103 charges, including 17 counts of uttering forged documents, eight counts of fraud over $5,000, and nine counts of attempted fraud over $5,000, among other related charges.
He was set to appear in court on September 8.
The TPS is advising the public to safeguard against purchasing stolen or repossessed vehicles by reviewing vehicle history reports.
The TPS highlighted signs to look for, including sudden changes in a vehicle's colour, a decrease in odometer mileage between owners, and records showing the vehicle was previously exported without a re-import certificate to Canada.
