Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán announce divorce after 21 years of marriage
“As hard as divorce is, we are approaching this with a positive outlook because we know it’s what’s best for us,” the pair wrote. “We are proud of how we have worked through this together.”
After 21 years of marriage, Leah Remini and Angelo Pagán have decided to file for divorce, prioritizing what’s best for both of them.
The former couple shared a joint statement on social media on Thursday, explaining that the decision to end their nearly three-decade-long relationship came "after a lot of thought and care."
"Divorce is difficult, but we are approaching it with a positive outlook because we know it’s the best decision for us," they wrote. "We are proud of how we have navigated this process together."
The statement acknowledged that while both Remini, 54, and Pagán, 56, are "sad" about the end of their marriage, they will "continue to move forward into our new normal—together still in many ways, and apart in some new ones."
Remini and Pagán, who share a 20-year-old daughter, assured that they will continue to celebrate holidays together, enjoy their favorite TV shows, and gather as a family.
"To put it simply, we both changed, as people do, and we got used to playing roles that no longer fit us," they explained. "Our bond remains strong—it’s just evolved into something different."
The couple described their marriage as a "huge success" and emphasized that they chose to share this candid statement about their divorce because their relationship has been public through various TV specials, including Leah Remini: It’s All Relative, which aired for two seasons on TLC.
"We want people to have more access to different kinds of relationship stories and not feel isolated as they navigate the changes that millions of couples experience every year," they continued. "We hope our journey can inspire others to see that relationships—whether they change or end—aren’t failures."
Remini and Pagán said they would continue to share "snippets" of their lives as they navigate the divorce and embark on new paths.
Remini, best known for her role on King of Queens, shares daughter Sofia Bella with Pagán, who also has three other children from a previous relationship.
The couple met in 1996 and were married in a Las Vegas ceremony in 2003. When Remini left the Church of Scientology in 2013 after 30 years, Pagán also left the faith.
In the years since, Remini has been a vocal critic of Scientology, accusing the organization and its leader, David Miscavige, of serious abuses of power.
Remini is currently engaged in a legal battle with the church, alleging that its leaders have retaliated against her with a campaign of "continued, aggressive harassment" and "mob-style operations and attacks." The Church of Scientology denies all allegations, claiming Remini is "spreading falsehoods and hate speech."
In 2016, Remini released the documentary series Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath, which she produced and co-created. The series won three Emmy Awards.
