Legault will meet the head of the physicians' union on Monday morning in Montreal
The FMSQ framework agreement addresses several issues, including the remuneration of specialist physicians.
Premier François Legault is set to meet with Dr. Vincent Oliva, president of the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec (FMSQ), on Monday morning in Montreal.
The meeting comes as the FMSQ is pushing for negotiations to begin on the renewal of its framework agreement, which expired on April 1, 2023.
Health Minister Christian Dubé will also attend the meeting, scheduled for 10 a.m.
The FMSQ framework agreement addresses several issues, including the remuneration of specialist physicians.
The previous agreement was finalized in 2018 under the Liberal government of Philippe Couillard and later amended in 2019 following the election of the Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ).
In 2019, the CAQ government reopened the agreement, cutting the compensation for physicians by $560 million annually, leading to total savings of $1.6 billion over the agreement’s duration.
The FMSQ represents 10,000 specialist doctors, with Dr. Oliva serving as its president since 2021.
In addition to the ongoing discussions with specialist physicians, Quebec also needs to negotiate the renewal of the framework agreement for family doctors, which expired on the same date, April 1, 2023.
