Beauchemin, who represents the Marguerite-Bourgeoys riding, has already secured support from former Quebec Finance Minister Carlos Leitão and fellow caucus member Sona Lakhoyan Olivier, the MNA for Chomedey.
He will be the fourth candidate in the race to succeed Dominique Anglade, joining former Fédération des chambres de commerce du Québec CEO Charles Milliard, former Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre, and tax lawyer Marc Bélanger.
Federal Transport Minister Pablo Rodriguez is still contemplating his decision.
The leadership race officially begins in January 2025, with the new leader to be chosen next summer.
