'Major' Gas Leak Shuts Down Taschereau Boulevard in Longueuil, Quebec
The leak is believed to have been caused by a broken underground gas pipe, with gas distributor Énergir currently on site investigating. Boucher advised people to avoid the area to help ease the limited traffic flow.
A "major" natural gas leak in Longueuil, Quebec, has prompted local police to restrict traffic on Taschereau Boulevard. The incident was first reported around 9:15 a.m., according to François Boucher, spokesperson for the Service de Police de l'agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL).
In response, police initially closed the street in both directions, though lanes heading toward Brossard have since reopened. However, the section of the boulevard between Curé-Poirier Boulevard and the Jacques-Cartier Bridge remains closed indefinitely. The bridge remains accessible from the opposite direction.
The leak is believed to have been caused by a broken underground gas pipe, with gas distributor Énergir currently on site investigating. Boucher advised people to avoid the area to help ease the limited traffic flow.
As a precaution, power to 473 Hydro-Québec customers along Taschereau Boulevard was cut, with restoration expected around 3 p.m. today. No injuries have been reported.
