Man and his dog fatally struck on highway in Brossard, Que.

A man lost his life Thursday evening while attempting to catch his dog on Highway 10 on Montreal's South Shore.

The incident happened around 8:15 p.m. near kilometre 14 in Brossard, Quebec. According to provincial police, the man had pulled over on the eastbound side of the highway after his dog escaped from his vehicle.

"He tried to pursue the dog and, unfortunately, was struck by a westbound car," said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.

Both the man and the dog were pronounced dead at the scene when emergency responders arrived.

The man, who was in his 30s, was a resident of Laval, Quebec, Bilodeau confirmed.

The westbound lane was closed at the height of kilometre 11 until kilometre 22, while a specialized collisions investigator analyzed the scene. The highway was completely reopened around 11:30 p.m.
