Man arrested in Quebec for alleged plot to kill Jews in NYC to appear in court
Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani national living in Ontario, was arrested in Ormstown, Que., allegedly on his way across the border into New York state.
A 20-year-old man arrested in Quebec last week over an alleged Islamic State terror plot targeting Jews in New York City is set to appear in court today in Montreal.
Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, a Pakistani national residing in Ontario, was apprehended in Ormstown, Quebec, reportedly while attempting to cross into New York state.
U.S. authorities claim Khan, also known as Shahzeb Jadoon, intended to carry out a mass shooting at a Jewish center in Brooklyn using "automatic and semi-automatic weapons" around October 7, marking the one-year anniversary of the Hamas attack on Israel.
It is alleged that Khan began planning the attack in November 2023.
Khan faces charges of attempting to provide material support and resources to a terrorist organization, and U.S. officials are seeking his extradition to face trial.
Earlier this week, federal Immigration Minister Marc Miller stated that Khan had entered Canada on a student visa in June 2023.
