Former Bank of Canada governor Mark Carney is set to share his vision for the Liberals' economic policy during a meeting with MPs in Nanaimo, B.C., today.
The party recently appointed Carney as the chair of a Liberal task force on economic growth, an announcement made as MPs gathered for their caucus retreat on Monday to strategize for the upcoming election year.
Carney will report directly to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and the committee responsible for developing the Liberal election platform. Although his remarks to caucus will be delivered privately, Carney is expected to address the media afterward.
In the past year, the Liberals have attempted to prioritize economic and affordability issues following a significant dip in the polls, though these efforts have not translated into improved public support.
Prime Minister Trudeau is also set to speak to the caucus for the first time since several MPs, both publicly and privately, have questioned whether he should lead the party into the next election.
