‘Mishap of some kind’: Man dead after industrial accident at Ontario Place

Toronto police have confirmed that the Ministry of Labour has been informed following the death of a man at a worksite at Ontario Place on Tuesday morning.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. at Ontario Place, where redevelopment work is currently underway.

Initially, the man’s injuries were described as life-threatening, but police later updated that he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that the man was injured by construction equipment, though the exact type of equipment involved remains unclear.

Toronto Fire officials told Global News that there was a “mishap” involving a "lifting device" that fell onto the worker, resulting in “crushing injuries.”

An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is ongoing.

The Ministry of Labour confirmed that they were notified of the fatal workplace accident and have assigned an inspector to conduct a detailed investigation.

“Our deepest condolences go out to the family, friends, and colleagues of the worker during this difficult time,” the Ministry of Labour said in a statement.

At this time, the ministry added that they have no further details to share.
