Le Petit Dep on St-Laurent is offering something special this season by transforming its coffee shop into a festive Christmas tavern, called La Taverne de Noël.
“I enjoy creating experiences—experiences that evoke emotions—and we thought it would be fun to elevate the Christmas atmosphere,” said Magda Slezak, founder of Le Petit Dep. “I think it’s a feel-good place. You walk in and immediately feel good. It’s a great spot to gather with friends, family, and kids. People are genuinely happy once they’re here.”
As for the menu, there are a variety of Christmas-themed drinks and cocktails to try. "We have the Grinch, the First Snowfall, and our hit hot chocolate called Chocomauve. It has a chocolate-covered rim with crushed candy canes, raspberry puree mixed into the hot chocolate, and is topped with artisanal pink marshmallows. It's been very popular," explained Slezak.
There is also a food menu with a Quebec-inspired twist. “We have four different types of pizzas: Poutine Pizza, Smoked Meat Pizza, one with corn, and another with pear and burrata,” said Slezak.
This is the first year Le Petit Dep is offering the Christmas tavern experience, and Slezak shared that the response has exceeded expectations.
“It’s been surprising, actually. We thought we’d be busy, but we didn’t realize just how much,” she said.
The tavern is filled with customers enjoying the holiday magic. “I’ve come here with some very dear friends, my Christmas elves, to soak in the holiday spirit. What better place to be than here?” said one customer.
“Why wouldn’t you want to come here? I’m here to enjoy the Christmas magic,” another added.
Montrealers can experience the holiday ambiance until January 13. Slezak suggests arriving before noon to avoid long lines.
