Montreal Sicilian organization celebrates $1M fundraising milestone
The association continues to foster community spirit and pride in both Sicilian and Italian heritage while striving to make a positive impact in Montreal through charitable events.
The Associazione Messinese di Montreal, a Sicilian organization that has been a staple in the community for over 40 years, has reached a significant fundraising milestone—raising more than $1 million since its inception in 1981.
To mark this achievement, the association hosted a special fundraising event for the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, alongside other beneficiaries such as the LaSalle Hospital Foundation and the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
Antonino Mendolia, the association’s secretary, expressed gratitude to the many people who contributed to this success, including founding members like Salvatore Alibrandi and those who dedicated countless hours to organizing events.
A notable tradition that has helped fundraise is the making of arancini, a Sicilian rice ball, with contributions from dedicated members like Nunziata Mendolia Lipari.
Maria Luisa Donato, the vice-president of the association, emphasized the importance of preserving Sicilian traditions and building bridges between Sicily and Quebec, such as through the Place Santa Lucia del Mela project in LaSalle.
The association continues to foster community spirit and pride in both Sicilian and Italian heritage while striving to make a positive impact in Montreal through charitable events.
The Associazione Messinese di Montreal looks forward to continuing its efforts and hopes to reach even greater milestones in the future, bringing people together to support important causes.
