The fifth-seeded Auger-Aliassime, from Montreal, triumphed in a tough three-set match, 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-4, which lasted two hours and 45 minutes. He won 74 percent of his first-serve points, compared to Paul's 69 percent, securing his second career victory over the 12th-ranked American. Auger-Aliassime had previously beaten Paul at Indian Wells in 2023.
Auger-Aliassime will meet No. 2 seed Sebastian Korda of the U.S. in Saturday’s final.
Ranked 29th in the world, Auger-Aliassime is aiming for his sixth career title on the ATP Tour.
The Adelaide tournament serves as a warm-up for the Australian Open, which starts this weekend. Auger-Aliassime is set to face Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff in the first round of the Grand Slam event.
