NDP and Bloc declare they will not support the Conservative vote of no confidence
Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-François Blanchet announced Wednesday that he will not back the motion, asserting that his MPs prioritize Quebec’s interests over Conservative objectives.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh announced on Thursday that he will not support Pierre Poilievre’s upcoming non-confidence motion.
Singh's declaration, combined with the Bloc Quebecois' intent to vote against the Conservative motion, significantly reduces the likelihood of an early fall election.
"New Democrats came to Ottawa to make progress, to fight for people, not to engage in Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative games," Singh told reporters outside the House of Commons.
He criticized Poilievre’s agenda, accusing him of planning cuts to pharmacare, healthcare, pensions, and dental care, and emphasized that his party aims to strengthen these policies instead.
Poilievre is set to present his motion for debate on September 24, specifically challenging Singh to support it.
Bloc Quebecois Leader Yves-François Blanchet announced Wednesday that he will not back the motion, asserting that his MPs prioritize Quebec’s interests over Conservative objectives.
Blanchet suggested that the Tory motion essentially seeks to replace Prime Minister Trudeau with Poilievre.
Although Blanchet has indicated a willingness to align with the Liberals on confidence motions, he has outlined certain conditions.
Without support from either the Bloc or the NDP, the Conservatives lack the votes needed to pass the non-confidence motion.
