One day after the unsettling release, the City of Toronto is reconsidering its plans for DVP development
“The traffic set-up is being redesigned and will be reimplemented later this month with a reduced impact on traffic,” the City said.
The City of Toronto has put plans for a major construction project along the Don Valley Parkway (DVP) on hold following significant traffic congestion caused by lane restrictions on Monday.
The Bayview/Bloor ramp to and from the DVP had been reduced to one lane for bridge rehabilitation, resulting in severe delays, especially for southbound motorists during the morning rush hour.
Due to the heavy traffic impact, the City decided to remove the work zone, which had been in place for just one day.
In a statement to 680 NewsRadio Toronto, the City acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the initial traffic setup and said they are working on a revised plan to minimize future disruptions.
“We understand the inconvenience caused by yesterday’s work zone setup and are actively working on a solution to minimize future disruptions,” the City stated.
“More details on the new setup will be shared as soon as they become available.”
Currently, the ramp has been restored to its usual two lanes in both directions. However, the City has indicated that crews will return in the next couple of weeks to begin the long-term project.
“The traffic set-up is being redesigned and will be reimplemented later this month with a reduced impact on traffic,” the City said.
Details about the new lane restrictions or traffic patterns around the work zone are not yet clear. The construction will involve reconstructing the portion of the ramp that crosses over the Bayview Extension, including work on the concrete bridge deck, substructure piers, abutments, and wingwalls.
The entire ramp will also be resurfaced, with the project expected to be completed by May 2025.
