Ontario explores raising speed limits on more stretches of 400-series highways
Transport ministry looking at increasing speeds 'where it is safe to do so,' premier says
Ontario Premier Doug Ford has instructed the Ministry of Transportation to consider raising the speed limit to 110 km/h on all sections of 400-series highways "where it is safe."
Ford made this announcement during an unrelated press conference on Wednesday.
Earlier in the year, speed limits were already increased on 10 stretches of highway across the province. These changes followed a 2019 pilot project that explored raising speed limits on certain roadways.
Transport Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria noted on Wednesday that feedback from the pilot project was "very positive."
