Ontario making GO Transit free for veterans, members of Canadian Armed Forces
RICHMOND HILL, Ont. - Veterans and current full-time members of the Canadian Armed Forces will soon be able to ride GO Transit for free.
Veterans and active full-time members of the Canadian Armed Forces will soon have access to free rides on GO Transit, Ontario’s minister of children, community and social services announced on Tuesday. The new transit relief program will start on March 1.
Minister Michael Parsa also indicated plans to expand the free fare program to include UP Express at a later date.
In addition, the government is increasing the annual support available through the Soldiers’ Aid Commission for eligible veterans and their families, raising the amount from $2,000 to $3,000. This funding can be used for various needs, such as health-related expenses, home repairs, moving costs, and essential personal items like clothing for those facing financial hardship.
Parsa emphasized that veterans have made immense sacrifices for Canada and Ontario, and they deserve the government’s steadfast commitment to supporting their well-being.
