Orangutan briefly escapes habitat at Toronto Zoo, returned safely
The zoo says Kembali the orangutan accessed an area just outside of its habitat Thursday evening.
The Toronto Zoo reported that an orangutan temporarily left its outdoor habitat but was safely returned without incident.
The zoo stated that the orangutan, named Kembali, managed to access an area just outside its enclosure on Thursday evening.
Staff quickly cleared guests from the vicinity, and the male orangutan was safely returned to its habitat.
As a precaution, police were called and remained on standby in a parking lot.
Zoo officials are asking anyone who was at the habitat on Thursday to come forward if they have any video footage of the incident.
The zoo has closed the outdoor orangutan habitat to guests and media while an investigation is underway.
