Penticton, B.C., city councillor faces more historical sex offence charges in Ontario, police say
James Miller is facing additional charges after more victims came forward, say police
A city councillor from Penticton, James Miller, who was arrested earlier this year on historical sexual offence charges involving a youth in Ontario, now faces additional charges after more victims came forward, according to police.
Sarnia Police Service reported that Miller, aged 59 and already on leave from his council duties, was taken into custody on November 8. He is now charged with seven counts of sexual interference, three counts of invitation to sexual touching, and one count of sexual assault.
These new charges follow Miller's prior arrest, where he faced two counts of sexual interference and two counts of sexual assault related to incidents involving a person under 16, dating back to 1989. The alleged offences occurred while Miller was volunteering as a youth basketball coach at the time.
Sarnia police noted that the investigation remains active, and they are seeking additional information from anyone who may have relevant details or may have been affected.
After his recent arrest in Penticton, Miller appeared virtually in a Sarnia court and was subsequently released with conditions in British Columbia.
Efforts to contact Miller for comment were declined.
