Police Search for Suspects Following "Extreme" BC Road Rage Attack That Hospitalizes a Couple
“This appears to have been an extreme case of road rage,” said Cpl. Harrison Mohr.
A young couple was hospitalized with serious injuries after a violent encounter following a Tim Hortons drive-thru in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland over the weekend.
On September 8, police are searching for two suspects involved in the road rage incident that left a 21-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man with "significant but non-life-threatening injuries," according to Mission RCMP.
The incident occurred when the couple, driving a grey Honda Civic, honked at a black Chevrolet Malibu that was not moving forward in the drive-thru line shortly after 10 a.m.
The Malibu then exited the drive-thru, and its occupants waited for the Civic to leave before throwing a coffee cup at them.
The Malibu followed the Civic for about two kilometers to an intersection, where the driver and passenger got out and attacked the Civic occupants with a baseball bat before fleeing. The Malibu was later found abandoned and seized by police.
“This appears to have been an extreme case of road rage,” said Cpl. Harrison Mohr.
“I’m sure we’ve all seen someone in a drive-through lane give a little honk to let the person in front know they can move up.
No one expects to be assaulted as a result of it. We wish both victims a full and speedy recovery and are working on locating and arresting the suspects.”
Social media images show the female victim with swollen, blackened eyes and extensive cuts and bruises. Her sister’s post describes the couple, who live in Mission, as having suffered "a huge amount of trauma" and needing a significant recovery period.
The victim’s sister described the couple as kind individuals and asked for thoughts and support.
She also mentioned that the attackers were driving a vehicle registered in Alberta.
Police have identified the suspects and released their photos to aid in their apprehension.
One suspect is described as a black male in his 30s with a medium build and a full beard.
The other suspect is a white female in her 30s with short light blonde hair, a sleeve tattoo on her left arm, and a tattoo around her right thigh.
The RCMP is urging anyone with information about the assault or the suspects to contact the Mission detachment.
