Port of Montreal dockworkers begin 3-day strike at 2 terminals
The Maritime Employers Association confirmed the work stoppage began Monday morning at 7 a.m. ET at the Viau and Maisonneuve Termont terminals.
The union representing longshore workers at the Port of Montreal initiated a three-day strike on Monday at two terminals.
The Maritime Employers Association confirmed the strike began at 7 a.m. ET at the Viau and Maisonneuve Termont terminals.
The strike is expected to continue until Thursday morning.
The union, affiliated with the Canadian Union of Public Employees, stated that around 350 members are participating in the work stoppage. The longshore workers' contract with the Maritime Employers Association expired on December 31.
In a statement on Sunday, the association said it had "tried all possible means" to prevent the strike, but mediation and an emergency meeting with the Canada Industrial Relations Board were unsuccessful.
