‘Programming error’ results in accidental sale on Quebec liquor products
Société des alcools du Québec spokesperson Laurianne Tardif confirmed the accidental sale happened between midnight and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The provincial Crown corporation responsible for liquor sales in Quebec, the Société des alcools du Québec (SAQ), reported that a computer glitch led to all products on its website being temporarily listed at a 30 per cent discount.
SAQ spokesperson Laurianne Tardif confirmed that the unintentional sale occurred between midnight and 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
She noted that the SAQ was able to resolve the issue shortly after it was discovered.
An investigation is currently underway to identify the cause of the problem. According to Tardif, the error was due to a programming issue and not the result of an external virus or cyberattack.
The SAQ did not respond to inquiries about how many items were purchased during the eight-and-a-half-hour period or how many customers benefited from the discounted prices.
