Quebec Finance Minister to present economic update Nov. 21
Additionally, Girard may address issues within the Youth Protection Department (DPJ), which has faced significant public scrutiny recently.
Quebec Finance Minister Eric Girard is set to release an economic update on Nov. 21, aiming to provide an overview of the province's finances and economy while addressing pressing issues.
In November 2023, Girard announced increased funding for areas like housing, food banks, transport, homelessness, and climate change.
However, by March, he revealed an $11 billion deficit, with plans to propose a balanced budget strategy by 2025-2026.
The government intends to eliminate the structural deficit by increasing revenue growth 1.1 percentage points above spending growth by 2028-29.
Girard noted that “in general, 2024 is going better than expected” and pledged to reassess tax measures in this update, aiming to save $1 billion over five years.
Quebec’s economic statement follows U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent protectionist policies, which could negatively affect Quebec’s economy.
Additionally, Girard may address issues within the Youth Protection Department (DPJ), which has faced significant public scrutiny recently.
